Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Ni-Based Alloy Composite Coating on Cr12MoV by Laser Cladding

Cr12MoV has been widely used in the manufacture of stamping and drawing dies. In present study, an attempt was made to improve mechanical properties by laser cladding Ni60 alloy reinforced WC. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), a microhardness tester, friction wear test prototype were analyze macroscopic morphology, microstructure, coating. The results showed that coating mainly composed Cr-Fe-Ni, γ-(Fe, Ni), Cr23C6, Cr7C3, W2C phases. layer presented dendritic eutectic structure enriched Cr, Fe, Ni. Zigzag-shaped dendrites with thicknesses 50~80 μm bonding zone ensured strong metallurgical bonding. Due solid solution strengthening, dispersion hardening, grain refinement, hardness reached 745 HV, which 3.5 times substrate. volume 14 × 10−3 mm3, 48% lower than substrate (27 mm3). had abrasive wear; however, adhesive besides wear.
